VOLUNTEERS
The programs of Ignite Adaptive Sports at Eldora Mountain Resort are provided by over 200 volunteers. Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all share a love of skiing and a commitment to providing winter recreation opportunities to members of the disabled community.
To become a volunteer for Ignite Adaptive Sports, volunteers must undergo training that is specifically oriented to providing a safe, fun, and educational experience for persons with disabilities. Ignite Adaptive Sports provides this training based on the American Teaching System developed by the American Ski Instructors of America and the American Association of Snowboard Instructors. Our instructors are trained to recognize problem situations and conditions that may be created by medications and disabilities. On-going training throughout the session is offered to maximize the instructor’s personal skiing/riding, teaching ability and technical knowledge.
While some volunteers themselves have disabilities or have family members with disabilities, most of our volunteers simply want to share their skills and their love of the sport. Volunteer opportunities exist in several capacities including snowsports instruction, snowsports equipment maintenance, snowsports lesson supervision, and administration.
